Safety Graphics Rule!
Okay okay, there is fun to be had in the corporate world -- safety! When you work at home there aren't so many safety warnings. Like on the coffee machine:

Or at the vending machine:

What is extra funny about this is that the sodas are all free to begin with (movie budgets anyone?) so why would you need to rock the machine? Plus there are two on every floor. Anyway...
And in the first aid kit, while looking for a bandage for a blister from my shoe, I saw this:
Just looking for a bandage, hmm hmmm....hmmm...hmmm....WTF?!?!

Work and Gratitude
I'm working this week back at a company I worked for through most of the 90's, departing amicably in December 1999. I've been back as a client over the last seven years so have not been far away from the place. (Plus it is very very close to where I live.) But this is the first time I've been back to sit in an office and work. And it's weird! First of all, I only know about 20 people from "the old days" as there are now over 1000 people working here. (Back then 500 was about as big as it got.) I left originally to get more life out of my life. A full time job at a facility was not for me in the long run and this is a very good thing to know about myself.
I like the freelance lifestyle that allows me to explore more creative pursuits while I do my day job, which is not a creative one at all. I like having days where I can spend time in the garden or go see movies on weekday afternoons with Kurt. (Research!) I like my freedom. And with that freedom I rarely feel the need to "run away" and travel. Sitting at this desk in this building for this week, I found (after only three days) myself wanting to travel and see the world. And this feeling was scary similar to how I used to feel 10 years ago -- Get me out! Get me away! Run Away! Run Away! But once I got home and realized it would only be another day or two, I calmed down.
I'm glad I can get quick and "easy" work when I need it. Believe me, I'm very grateful for that. I also appreciate that I can have a taste of that "old life" and know that I don't ever want to go back full time.
I only had this view every day for 3 1/2 years (Some people have been there for 11) and I have to say, I just don't miss it.

And When I Needed Another Break:
I got this in an email from a friend:
That is a big smile inducing clip!
Which lead to this one:
Which we can relate to as we laugh a lot at the wii (except when we are cursing at it.)

Working
So I'm working a "real" job this week. I have to go to an office and everything! Yowza. This makes me realize how much I need some new clothes. Luckily, the work I'm doing doesn't require more than very casual clothes (jeans/t-shirts if I want) and I'm only here for about five days, but sheesh. I have worn the same five shirts over and over for the past year and now it's summer time and I need some without holes. Yes, I'm grateful I have five different shirts to wear. I am also grateful for the income and grateful for the free coffee and diet cokes. Even more grateful that I live about seven minutes away from here.
Really, this post is me wasting time/taking a break. Now I will return to my work while looking forward to more hot BBQ action tmorrow!
Happy 3rd and 4th of July!

Other Jobs
People think I have such an amazing job -- Visual Effects Producer. Yes yes, I work in the movies and it is so glamorous...*
However, I was emailing a friend who is a scientist and academic in Minnesota and he said he had to go to Colorado for 36 hours. I asked why 36 and he responded with this fabulous sentence:
I need to take a few lizard tail tips for DNA analysis, all I need is 36 hours, good hiking boots, a noose, and decent weather.
For some reason it made me think of this quote from The Blues Brothers:
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hit it!
*I'm grateful for my FX Career, really I am. It bought me a house. But now I'm moving into more creative pursuits.
